Question

Does it hurt?

Answer

Typically acupuncture treatments do not hurt. As the needles are inserted into the body, there can be a bit of discomfort that passes after the needle is in. There are some points in the body that are more sensitive than others, and for these points, there are breathing techniques that can lessen the discomfort.

Question

Are there any side effects to acupuncture?

Answer

The most common reaction to an acupuncture treatment is feeling relaxed and energized. Some people experience a slight sensation in the points that were treated which passes after an hour. Other than that, you might see a small red spot where the needles were inserted.

Question

What if I am afraid of needles?

Answer

This is more of a mental obstacle than a physical one because the needles themselves are very fine and for most people if they can overcome the barrier once and try acupuncture they soon realize that it is neither scary nor painful. This is a common fear among people and there is a huge benefit to overcoming this fear and enjoying the benefits of acupuncture.

Question

Should I get acupuncture for preventative reasons or only when there is a specific problem to treat?

Answer

Acupuncture is, at its core, a practice meant to be used for prevention and to support healthy living. Those who incorporate it routinely into their lives, benefit from being more in touch with their bodies, the needs of their body and preventing dis-ease.

Question

Are herbal prescriptions safe and can they be taken with other medications?

Answer

Chinese herbal formulas are safe. Less adverse side effects are reported for Chinese herbs than for chemical medications. The herbs I use are from an international vendor and have undergone rigorous testing. I custom write formulas for each patient so that they are right for your body, regulate how long you take the formula and see you on a regular basis (at minimum once per month) to follow up on changes.
